Strengthening alliances in Panama during this International Year of Cooperatives 2025

Cooperatives of the Americas presented the official flag of the International Year of Cooperatives to partner organizations in Panama, where the regional director, Danilo Salerno, held key meetings with strategic actors for the organization of the activity on the Economy and Society of Care, which will take place in November in the City of Knowledge of the Central American country.

Salerno was received by the regional director of UN Women, María-Noel Vaeza, who accepted the invitation to join the Committee of Allied Parties for the AIC 2025 and confirmed her participation in the first official event of the year, which will take place on May 12 and 13 in Chile, focused on promoting productivity and territorial development with social inclusion, as well as in the November activity in Panama.

The latter will also include the participation of representatives from FAO, ILO, IOM and PAHO/WHO, the City of Knowledge Foundation and partner organizations of the International Cooperative Alliance, such as Cooperativa Profesionales and IPACOOP, consolidating the collaboration of the cooperative movement with international organizations to promote sustainable development.

The regional director of Cooperatives of the Americas also met with Professor Jorge Arosemena, founder and member of the Board of the City of Knowledge Foundation, who guaranteed the Foundation's adhesion to the Regional Committee of the Parties for the AIC 2025.

As part of this commitment, the Foundation will organize a one-day workshop, in collaboration with the Innova Center and Entrepreneurs for Sustainability, aimed at participants of the Cooperatives of the Americas event in November.

The meetings with Cooperativa Profesionales and IPACOOP were characterized by enthusiasm regarding the proposal for the event at the end of November, which will focus on the topic of caring for the planet and people, with the generation of job opportunities, knowledge and sustainable businesses as the main focus.

At the same time, Cooperatives of the Americas has begun the installation and launch of its auxiliary office in the City of Knowledge, forming part of an innovation ecosystem that houses 24 agencies of the United Nations system, business incubators, start-ups, research institutes, universities and foundations. This strategic space will strengthen the presence of cooperativism in a collaborative environment that promotes knowledge, cooperation and peace.
