The International Cooperative Alliance welcomed the Institute of Cooperativism (ICOOP) of the University of Puerto Rico, which joins as a new member from the American continent. With a recognized academic and social track record, ICOOP has been a driving force of training, research, and outreach in cooperative matters, contributing for decades to strengthening the sector on the island and in the Caribbean region.
It is an academic unit of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Río Piedras Campus. Since its founding in 1953, it has developed valuable educational and research work, making it a regional benchmark.
Its work includes leadership training programs, technical advice to cooperatives, and the publication of research that documents and disseminates best practices in the cooperative movement.
Furthermore, ICOOP has maintained a firm commitment to integrating cooperativism into university life, creating a solid bridge between academia and communities.
From Cooperatives of the Americas We celebrate your incorporation into the ICA, convinced that ICOOP's experience, leadership, and vision will enrich our spaces for dialogue, exchange, and joint action. We extend a warm welcome, confident that this step will further strengthen the voice and presence of American cooperativism on the world stage.
