The regional director of Cooperatives of the Americas, Danilo Salerno, was present at the Global Meeting of the Political Forum on Development (Policy Forum on Development, PFD), a platform promoted by the General Directorate of International Associations (DG INTPA) of the European Commission, contributing to the debate from the perspective of cooperativism.
The forum took place from June 17 to 19, 2025, in Brussels and brought together representatives of civil society, local authorities, the private sector, and European institutions to discuss the priorities of the European Union's international cooperation in a global context marked by crises, ecological transitions, and geopolitical changes.
This space promoted an open and constructive exchange on the implementation of development policies, with an emphasis on building transformative alliances, the green transition, democratic governance, and social inclusion.
Salerno emphasized the importance of "having a cooperative sector committed to sustainability and inclusion," and noted that "the new development paradigm must be based on a people-centered economy, the valorization of territories, the ecological transition, and a care economy; both for the planet and for people."
The participation of Cooperatives of the Americas in this forum is part of the project #coops4dev, co-financed by the European Union. This initiative aims to strengthen the cooperative movement globally and position the cooperative model as an effective tool for economic, social, and sustainable development.
